The opportunity
We are on the lookout for a Designer for Kidswear & Licencing to join our dynamic Designworks team, based in Richmond VIC. The primary objective of our Designer is to design, develop and create new garments and accessories, or modify existing designs to suit current trends from concept to completion. Producing presentation materials that optimally communicate the concept behind the line. With your knowledge and expertise, you will support the product development of your assigned accounts/categories and work with your Design Manager and Account Manager to ensure we meet the desired outcomes for our customers.
To achieve this, you:
- Create new season range plans, using previous season’s history, trend research and plan repeat styles.
- Select suitable garment fabrications to ensure quality and cost is in line with the brief
- Ensure ongoing trend and seasonal forecasting to achieve sales budget
- Understanding of critical path key development dates, sampling and customer presentation requirements.
- Liaise directly with offshore suppliers, ensuring the development of product ranges remain on track to meet timelines
- Prepare costing art-sheets to include technical drawings, trim details and constructions specifications within agreed timeframes - Manage sampling process across prototype development through to customer advertising. Facilitate sample testing and categories feedback for product improvement. - Respond to product performance reviews quickly and incorporate feedback into new season development.
- Monitor product submissions including fits samples, quality swatches, lab dips, prints, trims, accessories and fabric qualities within required production time allocated for the approval process and ensure this is communicated to all relevant stakeholders on regular basis
- Maintain and update files in line with customer requirements within agreed timeframes
- Understand and work to Licensor brand guidelines within design process.
- Lead by example ensuring junior team members are mentored and supported
- Ensure designs work within financial parameters and achieves margin requirements.
- Understanding of post seasonal analysis
- Coordinated sourcing of fabrics and trims to suit range requirements.
- Problem solving with factories and internal parties, management of design approval process, and ensuring product meets design specification
- Liaise with QA techs regarding fit and styling throughout production process including fit/proto, Pre-Production and shipment samples
- Design and produce Range Books or Boards as required by Designer and Account Managers.
- Manage SMS process to ensure Account Managers and Customers have required samples on time.
- Collaborate with team members within and across the business to achieve goals and ensure team success.
- Open communication between design team, give and receive open feedback & ideas to focus on continual personal and team improvement
The skills and experience you offer us
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, concept ideation, colour theory, use of texture, spacing and scale, visual presentation development and layout
- Basic understanding of pattern making, draping, materials, trims, garment fit, garment construction, and manufacturing
- Comprehensive understanding of textile construction, and knowledgeable in fabric structures, with an emphasis in functional activewear fabrics
- Accustomed to working in a rapidly changing, high growth environment and to manage multiple and competing work priorities, demands and changes
- Embody the passion to work on innovation and style
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Able to work as both part of a larger team and autonomously as required
- Good written and verbal communication
- Good time management, organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines
- Strong eye for product
