Senior Payroll Officer

Join our dynamic People & Culture team as a Senior Payroll Officer, where you’ll take ownership of complex payroll operations and play a key role in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services across Australia and New Zealand. This is a hands-on role where your expertise will directly contribute to keeping our people supported, our systems running smoothly, and our payroll processes continuously improving.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing for Support Office employees in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end activities including Superannuation, Payroll Tax, Workers Compensation, and payroll reporting.
  • Mentor and guide payroll team members, acting as the first point of contact for escalations and problem-solving.
  • Respond to complex payroll queries with accuracy and confidence.
  • Support payroll-related activities within business projects, ensuring impacts are understood and addressed.
  • Contribute to system upgrades, testing, and implementation of improvements.
  • Ensure payroll practices align with legislation, industrial instruments, and internal policies.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, including documentation and reporting.
  • Champion process improvement initiatives and maintain payroll documentation.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • 3–5 years’ experience in end-to-end Australian payroll processing in a complex or high-volume environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements (Fair Work Act, NES, Superannuation Guarantee, PAYG, STP, Payroll Tax).
  • Confident in interpreting EBAs, Modern Awards, and employment contracts.
  • Proficient in large payroll systems (Dayforce, Chris21, SAP, PayGlobal) with strong Excel skills.
  • Skilled in resolving complex payroll issues and preparing accurate reporting.
  • Collaborative and customer-focused, with the ability to mentor and support others.
  • Bonus points for experience with:
    • Dayforce
    • New Zealand payroll compliance and legislation
    • Retail support office environments
    • Year-end payroll processes
