Design Assistant - Black Pepper

We’re on the lookout for a passionate and detail-oriented Design Assistant to join our Fashion Apparel team!

What You'll Be Doing

As our Design Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the team with both creative and administrative tasks, including:

Production & Sample Management:

  • Communicate changes internally, keeping the change register updated at all times
  • Assist with the lap dip process for all fabrics to ensure accurate color matching.
  • Assist with print strike-off requests, ensuring high-quality print approvals.
  • Manage samples as deliveries arrive from suppliers, salesman, and photo samples.
  • Organize and track marketing samples for campaigns and ecommerce shoots.
  • Keep the showroom and design sample areas organized and up to date.

Creative & Design Support:

  • Assist the design team in the end-to-end process, from spec proceeds to final product.
  • Create technical flat drawings for CADs and specification sheets.
  • Work on print / print repeats, and textile designs, ensuring alignment with Black Pepper’s brand identity.

Administrative & Logistics Support:

  • Prepare and send parcels to China, ensuring smooth logistics.
  • Maintain organized and up to date files.
  • Ensure CAD updates are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support additional design projects and administrative tasks as needed.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Formal qualification in Fashion Design (highly regarded but not essential).
  • Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop proficiency – you know your way around CADs!
  • Experience in a similar fashion or retail design role.
  • A keen eye for textiles, garment construction, and product development.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with different teams.
  • A proactive attitude – you take initiative and love problem-solving!
  • A true team player with a can-do mindset.
