A RARE RETAIL LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Head of Retail, we’re seeking an exceptional Area Manager to join our Black Pepper team, supporting 13 stores across NSW/ACT.

This is a hands-on, sales-led, people-driven leadership role for someone who thrives on accountability, coaching and turning commercial insight into action.

And there’s something genuinely rare about this role: no weekend work is required, and there is no retail blackout period over December.

That means you can enjoy the excitement of leading a high-performing retail network without sacrificing your Summer, including having Boxing Day off.

It’s a leadership role that offers the best of both worlds: a rewarding career in retail, with genuine work-life balance.

ROLE IN A NUTSHELL

As Area Manager, you’ll be responsible for the overall performance of your region’s stores in line with business strategy, maximising profitable sales while building engaged, capable and high-performing teams.

You’ll be a visible leader who inspires Store Managers, develops talent, drives commercial performance and creates exceptional customer experiences across your region.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

As Area Manager, you’ll:

  • Lead a culture of selling excellence, ensuring KPIs are understood, owned and embedded across your stores.
  • Coach and develop Store Managers and their teams to grow the customer database, convert new customers into loyal advocates and nurture existing loyal customers.
  • Drive excellence across people management, visual merchandising and inventory control.
  • Own roster planning, reviewing and optimising schedules to balance sales opportunities and cost control, while upskilling Store Managers in effective workforce planning.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, recommending strategies to enhance sales, team performance, stock management and systems.
  • Analyse commercial performance and translate data and insights into clear, actionable strategies.
  • Manage performance, achieve KPI targets and motivate your teams to consistently succeed.
  • Nurture and grow your direct reports, building a strong talent pipeline across the retail network.
  • Lead by example, spending time on the shop floor and creating a culture of accountability, energy and customer focus.
  • Handle escalated store or customer complaints with professionalism and sound judgement.
  • Confidently manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, development and performance management.
  • Partner with the Head of Retail and broader business to deliver strategic initiatives and bring the Black Pepper brand vision to life.

ABOUT YOU

You’re a commercially minded, people-focused retail leader who knows how to inspire teams and deliver results.

You bring:

  • Proven Area Management experience within the retail sector.
  • A strong track record of driving sales, achieving results and engaging high-performing teams.
  • Strong commercial and KPI knowledge, with the ability to turn numbers into action.
  • Exceptional people leadership, performance management and coaching skills.
  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making capabilities.
  • A mindset focused on innovation, adaptability and continuous improvement.
  • Self-driven motivation, with a genuine hunger for growth and success.
  • A passion for exceptional customer experiences and engaging with both internal and external events.
  • Strong communication, inclusivity and team-listening skills.
  • The ability to move with urgency, think on your feet and lead from the floor.
  • A genuine passion for developing people and building future retail leaders.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF RETAIL ROLE

We know retail leadership can be demanding — particularly through the busiest time of year.

That’s why we’re proud to offer something different.

No weekend work required.
No December blackout period.
And - Boxing Day is yours.

You can build a successful career in retail leadership while still having the opportunity to enjoy the festive season, recharge and spend meaningful time with the people who matter most.

SOME PERKS WE OFFER

  • Generous staff discounts across Brand Collective brands, including 50% off Reebok, Superdry, Hush Puppies, Elka Collective and more.
  • A purpose-driven culture with community initiatives, including World Kindness Day and ovarian cancer awareness fundraising.
  • Paid parental leave, volunteer leave and additional leave purchase options.
  • Novated leasing options.
  • Reward and recognition programs, plus generous service awards.
  • Recruitment referral incentives.
  • Learning and development opportunities.
  • Free Employee Assistance Program for mental health support.
